Multicast Routing with Mobility Prediction

چکیده
An ad hoc wireless network is an infrastructureless network composed of mobile hosts. The primary concerns in ad hoc networks are bandwidth limitations and unpredictable topology changes. Thus, eecient utilization of routing packets and immediate recovery of route breaks are critical in routing and multicasting protocols. A multicast scheme, On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP), has been recently proposed for mobile ad hoc networks. ODMRP is a reactive (on-demand) protocol that delivers packets to destination(s) on a mesh topology using scoped ooding of data. We can apply a number of enhancements to improve the performance of ODMRP. In this paper, we propose a mobility prediction scheme to help select stable routes and to perform rerouting in anticipation of topology changes. We also introduce techniques to improve transmission reliability and eliminate route acquisition latency. The impact of our improvements is evaluated via simulation.

Exploiting the unicast functionality of the on-demand multicast routing protocol
An ad hoc wireless network is composed of mobile hosts without any wired infrastructure support. In mobile ad hoc networks, unicast and multicast routing protocols are faced with the challenge of producing multihop routes because of limited radio propagation range. In addition, routing protocols must manage mobility and be bandwidth and power efficient. The On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol ...

Recently, we had proposed a novel network density and mobility aware energy-efficient broadcast route discovery strategy (called DMEF) to discover stable routes in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). DMEF works by letting each node to dynamically choose its own broadcast transmission range for the route discovery messages depending on the perceived number of neighbour nodes in its default maximum ...

Due to the growth and development of computer networks, the importance of the routing topic has been increased. The importance of the use of multicast networks is not negligible nowadays. Many of multimedia programs need to use a communication link to send a packet from a sender to several receivers. To support such programs, there is a need to make an optimal multicast tree to indicate the opt...

operation if the mobile host is expected to remain the network relatively long period of time, while it does not start multicast tree join operation if the mobile host is expected to remain the network relatively short period of time. The proposed protocol tries to minimize the number of unnecessary multicast tree join operations. We examined performance of the proposed protocol by simulation u...
